What we do in this class:
StarGroup introduces the beautiful sport of figure skating. With our program skaters will have opportunities to develop figure skating skills in four different areas.
Our Group program is the stepping stone to the STARSkate program. Coaches will encourage skaters to move up to the next level when skaters are ready. In our sessions the skaters will work in group format to learn proper technique of stroking, basic jumps, spins, edges and a few fun elements like spirals, lunges and spread eagles.
Star Group skaters will focus on the Stage 5 & 6 badges from CanSkate and progress to the Star 1 level. It is highly recommended that skaters add a private lesson with a coach to this session, to help focus on specific areas.
Intro to Synchro – skaters in this program will learn the basics of Synchronized Skating. Skaters will learn to work as a team to develop a program to skate at the end of season Gala. While skaters will have a little bit of time to work on StarSkate skills, the main focus will be on the team elements. Skaters from CanSkate working on Stage 5 & 6 are welcome to try Intro to Synchro program. Intro to Synchro will help prepare skaters to skate on a competing Synchronized Skating Team.
Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.
How StarGroup works:
Skaters work in a group and independently to learn and practice the elements taught during the session. (Offered during Winter and Spring sessions)
