What we do in this class:
CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of any age that teaches fundamental movements and basic skills.
CanSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, CanSkate centers on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity.
PreCanSkate – Ages 3-4 with little or no skating experience. PreCanSkate teaches skaters how to get up after falling, and how to get moving around the ice. We play games and have lots of fun on this session. (PreCanSkate is offered during regular winter season only)
PreCanSkate is for skaters only (they will be helped by coaches and program assistants) or parents can participate on the ice with their skaters in PreCan & Parent. Just remember that all parents must also wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on the ice.
CanSkate – Ages 5 & up with little to no skating experience. (offered during Winter, Spring & Summer)
CanSkate Power – Ages 5 & up with some skating experience. (offered during Winter only).
What will you learn?:
A complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. CanSkate uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills.
